Sunshine
Bask in the sun
as its brilliance floods
your senses,
robbing you of sanity
and leaving you
a sobbing mess
of nothing.
Around it your world revolves,
and you cease to exist
as the centre
of your own universe.
You are
but another planet,
simmering in space,
forgotten with time,
and void of life.
Oh, how you love the sun!
So far away,
you can only be content
with the scraps of light
it throws your way.
But in these throes of passion,
you hope,
that you never see
the end of day.
As darkness surrounds
and night descends,
you pine for a glimpse
just a glimpse;
Nothing more,
than a fleeting touch,
before it returns to embrace,
but not soon enough.
Would it fly back
as it promised,
rising from the East,
like a phoenix?
Or will the darkness
push you over
as you lie,
consumed by night?
